5 causes of rashes in the penile area
Why do rashes occur in the penile area?
1. Simple irritation
A man can get rashes in the penile area due to prolonged masturbation sessions which irritate the foreskin and cause redness and itching.
In addition, latex condoms can cause redness and itching; it is best to use latex-free condoms.
2. Pearly penile papules
They are round, pimple-like bumps that develop in childhood or adolescence.
They are most common in penises that have not been circumcised. Pearly penile papules are not sexually transmitted and do not need to be treated. However, they can be removed cosmetically if the person is ashamed of them.
3. Jock itch
This rash is accompanied by a painful and bothersome itchiness. This is caused by a fungus and is common among gym goers and those who don’t maintain good hygiene.
4. Allergic reactions
Allergic reactions to certain medications and medications can trigger a rash in the penile area. In addition, a man is more likely to be infected with contact dermatitis due to allergic reactions to cologne, detergents, certain fabrics, and soap.
5. Sexually transmitted infections
These can also lead to painful rashes. They are obtained through skin-to-skin sexual contact with an infected person.
Examples of these sexually transmitted diseases are syphilis, genital warts, genital herpes, and yeast infection.
If you notice a rash, the best thing to do is see your doctor, even if it’s not a sexually transmitted infection. Prevention is better than cure.
