Actor and cultural architect Charles Reese returns to his James Baldwin literary salons at the historic Carl Bean House in Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES, CA, August 5, 2021 / 24-7PressRelease / – In honor of the 97th birthday of author and civil rights activist, James Baldwin; The In the Meantime Men’s Group and Sons of Baldwin Literally Lit will present We Are All Sons of Baldwin: The James Baldwin Experience.
It will take place on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. PST, with Charles Reese, speaker, actor and cultural architect for public engagement. He will be on hand to present dramatic clips from the off-Broadway playbook James Baldwin: A Soul on Fire, followed by a community dialogue.
The play, written by the late playwright Howard B. Simon, edited by Reese, and with a preface by David Leeming (Baldwin’s biographer), uses themes from Baldwin’s life and writings while describing 1963 as a turning point in the Civil Rights Movement in the United States.
This live in-person program is part of a series of workshops presented by In the Meantime Men’s Group, commemorating Black Gay Men’s Wellness Month, and will take place in the front garden of the historic Carl Bean House , home of the Los Angeles Blacks. Asked about his passion for sharing Baldwin’s work and raising awareness of black gay men’s health, Reese says After a 16-month absence from my domestic and international trips with this very popular Baldwin salon series due to the pandemic, It’s good to start again (as James Baldwin would say) at the Literally Literally Literal Black Gay Wellbeing Month series, as we take a look at how Baldwin’s works / words provide healing balm in these trying times.
Reese is also a recipient of the organization’s Medal of Honor, which is awarded to incredible human beings who change the landscape and write a powerful story of healing and empowerment.
Entrance is free to the public and guests are encouraged to wear masks as Covid-19 health and safety rules will apply.
