American Crime Story cast compared to real people

Impeachment: American Crime Story is the third go-around for the FX American crime story franchise, and like each of the first two installments, it seeks to look at something completely different. Or The people against OJ Simpson watched, in large part, the OJ Simpson trial and the aftermath of the crime itself, and The assassination of Gianni Versace followed Andrew Cunanan as he traveled to a massacre across the country, Accused plunges into a much more nuanced and public scandal: a presidential impeachment.
The story this time centers around Monica Lewinsky, played here by Beanie Feldstein. It’s a well-known story, but as a 22-year-old White House intern Lewinsky had an affair with Bill Clinton, the 42nd President of the United States of America. It was only the tip of the iceberg, however, as Accused will explore throughout its 8-episode run. The show is executive produced, as always, with writing by Sarah Burgess.
What makes the American crime story series all the more convincing is the fact that, yes, these are true stories. Probably at least somewhat dramatized versions of these stories, yes, but the vast majority of the characters here have counterparts who, at least on some level, actually did.what we see represented on the screen. And at this point, it’s natural to want to know what the real person’s chord is, and if they even look a bit like the person playing them.
So, without further ado, let’s see how the Impeachment: American Crime Story cast compares to their real life counterparts.

Feldstein beanie – Monica Lewinsky
The center of Impeachment: American Crime Story is Monica Lewinsky, who had an affair with President Bill Clinton while she was an intern at the White House, which led at least in part to the Accused of the title of the story. Lewinsky herself is a producer on the series, and Feldstein has been a rising star for the past few years, appearing in beloved films. Lady Bird, and Booksmart, with a small but memorable role in the TV series What we do in the shadows.
Clive Owen – Bill Clinton
Little known fact, but Bill Clinton was the 42nd President of the United States of America. His dismissal, making him the second US president to be indicted, is the subject of the latter American crime story season. Clinton was president from 1993 to 2001. He is played here by a very different than usual Clive Owen, who is probably best known for his roles in films like Inside man and Children of men. This isn’t his first foray into premium television, as he helmed Steven Soderbergh’s underrated series The Knick few years ago.
Edie Falco – Hillary Clinton
Speaking both of the people you might have heard of and high-profile television, Hillary Clinton is played in Impeachment: American Crime Story by Edie Falco. You might remember Clinton from her time as First Lady, her time as a Senator, her time as Secretary of State, or her presidential candidacy in 2008 and 2016. Falco, okay sure, has been television royalty since her stint as Carmela Soprano in The Sopranos (when she won three Emmy Awards for Best Leading Actress) and on Nurse Jackie (when she added another Emmy to her collection).
Sarah Paulson – Linda Tripp
Linda Tripp was a whistleblower in the case, an official responsible for the voice conversations recorded by Lewinsky that publicly revealed the affair between the president and the intern. Paulson, who once regretted wearing a big costume for the role, is perhaps the most prominent actor to have worked with Ryan Murphy on his various projects over the past decade, including leading roles. in most seasons of american horror story and a memorable and much-heralded turning point as Marcia Clark in American Crime Story: The People vs. OJ Simpson (for which she won her only Emmy).
Annaleigh Ashford – Paula Jones
Jones was an Arkansas State employee, another public servant, who sued Bill Clinton for sexual harassment in 1994 for an incident that allegedly took place in 1991, just before the expiration of the three-year limitation period of the state. Jones’ trial ultimately brought Clinton to the stand in court, when he was also questioned about sex with Lewinsky, which he denied. When evidence of the relationship later emerged, Clinton was later charged with perjury. Ashford is known for her work on Showtime’s Masters of sex, and on Broadway. She also currently stars in the CBS sitcom B Positive, and made a brief but memorable appearance in John Mulaney and the Sack Lunch Bunch on Netflix.
Judith Light – Susan Carpenter-McMillan
Susan Carpenter-McMillan was a conservative Republican and adviser to Paula Jones during her time in the public eye, following Jones’ 1991 sexual harassment lawsuit against Clinton. She played in Impeachment: American Crime Story by Judith Light, best known for her role in the ’80s sitcom Who is the boss?, but a recent collaborator of Ryan Murphy in American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace and The politician.
Margo Martindale – Lucianne Goldberg
Goldberg is a literary agent, notable in the history of Impeachment for being the person who advised Linda Tripp to tape Monica Lewinsky’s private phone calls about her relationship with Clinton. She is played here by the ever-excellent Margo Martindale, who won an Emmy for her role in Justified, and appeared in … about ten million other things. A quick cry to her amazing voice role in BoJack Cavalier as a fictional version of herself, “character actress Margo Martindale”.
Colin Hanks – Mike Emmick
Emmick was an attorney for Ken Starr’s team, who spent nearly 12 hours with Lewinsky at one point trying to persuade her to cooperate with an investigation to find Clinton guilty of perjury. Hanks, yes, is the son of Tom Hanks, but he’s also a more than accomplished actor in his own right. He has already traveled the prestige television route in the first season of Fargo, and has been in several notable films, including Orange County, that of Peter Jackson King Kong, and the recent Jumanji movies.
Cobie Smulders – Ann Coulter
Ann Coulter remains an outspoken Conservative expert to this day, but she started around the time of Clinton’s impeachment trial. She first wrote a book on the Clinton impeachment trial, based on her experience writing briefs for Paula Jones’ attorneys. She is played by Cobie Smulders, well known to sitcom fans as Robin Scherbatsky of how I Met Your Mother and to Marvel Cinematic Universe fans as Maria Hill. Smulders’ most recent foray into television was in the underrated series Stumptown, which unfortunately was canceled after just one season.
Billy Eichner – Matt Drudge
Drudge was one of the earliest forms of political blogger / aggregator, and he became very popular the moment he started publishing the news that eventually became the Lewinsky scandal. Before founding The Drudge Report, Drudge did a series of odd jobs, including the counter at 7-Eleven. He is played here by Billy Eichner, the hilarious comedian best known for his chaotic game show. Billy in the street. Eichner previously worked with Murphy on american horror story.
