‘Barry’ Season 3 HBO Release Schedule
It can be extremely difficult for TV shows to find the right tone. Does anything want to be drama? Does it want to be a comedy? Usually, it’s a decision that has to be made at the top, and it’s a decision that the series has to succeed at, whatever it is. The fact that Barry, HBO’s hitman-turned-actor, but still a bit of a hitman, manages to be, well, a bit of everything — and do it all so well — is a bit of a modern miracle.
After more than three years of absence, barry is back for its long-awaited season 3. And if that sounds like what the first and especially the second season proved, it could have you laughing hysterically in an instant, on the edge of your seat sweating a gunfight a minute later, and truly rip ten minutes later. HBO is no stranger to bending genres and mixing tones, but barry is so unique that you can only understand only how unique he feels looking at him.
Season 3 continues where Season 2 left off, with Barry (Bill Hader) at a crossroads in his relationship with just about everyone except his former pal NoHo Hank (Anthony Carrigan) , who also indirectly helped him get Gene (Henry Winkler) out of police custody. His romantic and professional acting interests with Sally (Sarah Goldberg) are frayed, and he desperately wants to kill the obnoxious bastard Fuches (Stephen Root) once and for all. You’ll also have to remember that Fuches revealed to Gene that it was Barry – a Marine whom Fuches nudged into a career as a hitman – who killed Gene’s girlfriend, Janice, a police detective who discovered Barry’s true identity as a hitman and fell in love with Gene along the way. It’s all a mess.
And, again, it’s the glory of Barry. It all sounds pretty intense and loaded! But then there’s Bill Hader in the lead role, carrying so much weight on his shoulders not only in his usual spirited and hilarious fashion, but also putting in some serious dramatic effort. The cast, especially Root, Goldberg and Carrigan, are all terrific and worthy of all the praise they receive. There really isn’t much more—barry is a fantastic show and we’re damn excited that Season 3 is finally here.
