Elliot Page’s Washboard Abs Are A Major Moment
Covering celebrity abs isn’t new to us – and hardly a rarity on Instagram – but when Elliot Page shared a picture of himself, shirtless, on the platform this morning, it was so much more than yours. typical selfie: It was a big moment for Page, and a big moment for trans visibility.
The actor, who revealed himself as trans, non-binary and queer on December 1 of last year while recovering from surgery – a common gender-affirming procedure that some trans, non-binary people and queer decide to undergo to relieve gender dysphoria – in Toronto, told TIME that the surgery “had not only changed lives, but also saved lives.”
The image simultaneously celebrates his first pair of swimsuits and his trans identity, with many celebrities and fans commenting on how happy the actor is and others highlighting Page’s impressive “eight-pack”.
In his first in-depth interview, Page said Vanity Fair last month he knew he was a boy at a very young age.
“All trans people are so different, and my story is absolutely just my story. But yeah, when I was a little kid, absolutely, 100 percent I was a boy, ”Page said.
“I knew I was a boy when I was little. I wrote fake love letters and signed them “Jason”.
“Every little aspect of my life is who I was, who I am and who I knew myself to be.
“I just couldn’t understand when I was told, ‘No you’re not. No, you can’t be that when you’re older ”.
“You feel it. Now I’m finally getting back to feeling like who I am, and it’s so beautiful and extraordinary, and there is heartbreak in a way.
