Men’s basketball Syracuse Orange vs Villanova: forecast and TNIAAM poll
After the 3-3 start of the Syracuse Orange men’s basketball team, you had a right to be concerned. The team was blown away by Colgate and watched out of its depth into the Bahamas. With a difficult slate in late November / early December ahead of the team, things looked a bit dire.
They still could, sure. But Syracuse managed to win twice in a row against Indiana and Florida State, and now gets into a big clash with Villanova wearing what some might consider a moose – even if it’s fair to say it’s fool’s gold.
Regardless of the semantics, the staff at TNIAAM provide their choices for the game. And if you make the bet yourself, Syracuse is currently a 8.5 point outsider by DraftKings (odds / lines subject to change. Terms and conditions apply. See draftkings.com/sport bets for details).

I’ve been a # disloyal idiot the last couple of games and it’s been going pretty well, so let’s try again. âNova is one of the nation’s most successful offenses at No. 4 on KenPom, has a low turnover percentage and hits over 42% of their three. I just don’t see how all of this will turn out well for the Orange as their three-point defense is questionable this season (ranked 249th) and overall ranked outside of the nation’s top 150 teams on D. Basically , we’re hoping for an unusually poor Wildcats shooting night, otherwise there’s not much to like about this game.
Syracuse 75, Villanova 70
Syracuse is currently on a two-game winning streak, beating Indiana and Florida State last week in close games. While their defense and rebounds have been weak points for the team this season, their offense has been excellent, ranking 17th in offensive efficiency, according to KenPom. Villanova have been one of the top 25 teams in the AP standings all season, currently at 6-2, losing only to Purdue and UCLA at the start of the season, the top two teams. Villanova will enter Madison Square Garden with a focus on the task at hand, but I think the Orange will take advantage of their recent momentum and tell the entire NCAA that they shouldn’t be counted just yet.

This game is expected to be a high-scoring affair with two of the country’s top 20 offenses facing off, which will be great for viewers on the domestic stage but not so good for Syracuse’s porous defense. The zone (zones?) Took a step forward against Florida State on Saturday, but we’ll see if that was a harbinger of things to come or if it was just fluke against a bad shooting team from. the FSU. Collin Gillespie will have no problem finding his shots tonight and that worries me about Syracuse. Villanova by a dozen bakers.
Villanova 84, Syracuse 79
These teams could organize a shooting clinic at MSG, but I think Villanova is a bit better overall. Collin Gillespie will present a great challenge for the Syracuse defense. The Orange can’t afford to let the Wildcats get good opportunities beyond the arc as Villanova shoot 42% from deep. Can Jesse Edwards get out of trouble? If he is able to stay on the ground late, his size might change the expected outcome.
Villanova 82, Syracuse 69
First off, Zeke clearly didn’t get the #disloyalidiot memo.
It could get ugly. Villanova is just athletic enough to cause the one problem Syracuse can’t afford – fouls. Things always start to turn bad for the Orange when the faults pile up on Jesse Edwards. He needs to get help from everyone. Guards should keep the ball from easily entering the arc from above and the wings should stop dropping the baseline so easily. Add that to a very inconsistent offense and there might not be much hope for the Orange.
Now it’s your turn…
