By Matt Callaway, Texas A&M Athletics Communications
ORLANDO, Florida – The eighth-ranked Texas A&M men’s tennis team advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals for the fourth time in program history with a 4-0 victory over No. 16 in the knockout stages of the NCAA tournament Monday night at the USTA National Campus. The Aggies face No.1 Florida in the NCAA quarterfinals on Thursday, game times have not been determined.
The Aggies broke the doubles point to open a 1-0 advantage over the Bulldogs, winning 6-3 on courts two and three. Hady Habib and Noah Schachter, No. 86 from A&M, beat Giovanni Oradini and Nicolas Ocana on short three, followed by the clincher by No. 65 Valentin Vacherot and Pierce Rollins ahead of Nemanja Malesevic and Davide Tortora.
As the game moved into singles, A&M kept up its momentum by winning the opening sets on all six courts. No.3 Habib converted a 6-4, 6-0 result into a 2-0 lead for the Aggies by beating 48th Florian Broska on court two. Moments later, A&M freshman Raphael Perot nearly shut out Gregor Ramskogler, 6-0, 6-1, on court six to put the Aggies to a 3-0 lead.
Needing just one more point to book A&M’s fourth trip to the NCAA quarterfinals, the Aggies found No.100 Schachter up to the task. Schachter, the Wesley Chapel, Florida native, scored the Aggies’ fourth point in back-to-back games. On Monday, the right-hander dominated Alberto Colas 6-2, 7-6 (3) to advance the Aggies.

TEXAS A&M HEAD COACH STEVE DENTON QUOTES
“It was a very good team victory. We knew it was going to be a tough game, they are a really fiery team and our guys came and played really well I thought. We were delighted to play this game tonight and we played hard. We have to keep taking one step at a time and everyone in Orlando is capable of winning the tournament.
On how the Aggies got away …
“When we get to this point in the season, we have to do whatever it takes. I think our guys are pretty connected and we got some quick results from Raphael [Perot] and Hady [Habib]. It’s always that fourth point that’s so elusive and it looked like it might get tricky there for a while. Mississippi State pushed us, what I knew they would do is a really well-trained team. I’m really glad that Noah [Schachter] got to win the game here in Florida, being on top of that area. He was pretty serious tonight and winning that tiebreaker I thought he was playing at a very high level.
TEXAS A&M JUNIOR NOAH SCHACHTER QUOTES
On the melee in its original state …
“I think it was cool doing it in front of my friends and family, but honestly I’m the happiest doing it for the seniors. We know this is their last race, it was really special. I know, Val [Vacherot], Hady [Habib] and Carlos [Aguilar] everyone really wants it, and we’re so excited to go to Elite Eight. “
By winning the tiebreaker in the second set …
“I made it a point to focus on every point. I just tried to play really aggressively and have no regrets. It paid off, he’s a very good player, so I knew I had to play very aggressively to get the point.
On his doubles match to open the match …
“We came out with a lot of energy at the start. Hady [Habib] played amazing, hit some big serves, and I was good at net. We had an early break and continued to ride.
–The Aggies are 46-28 all-time in the NCAA tournament, reaching the Round of 16 15 times, the Round of 16 four times, and the NCAA Semifinal once, in 2018.
