Outside angle: make the transition from the hard house

Flag’s outdoor expert Steve Carney has your weekly outdoor angle here!
This is so cool! I am finally entering the world of “hard houses” and abandoning (for the moment) laptops to start more comfortable and efficient permanent.
I have had great success with portable rocking laptops over the decades and there are times when the wind and cold make a laptop not very fun. The hard house allows me to fish in any weather and opens up a lot more fishing possibilities.
My goal was a small house that was easy to pull with an ATV. Chances are I’d pull it on my own and anything over 7ft would be a chore. I also chose to go for a house “on skids” rather than a wheelhouse simply because the houses on skids can climb and on snowdrifts while the wheelhouses tend to get bogged down. A log house can withstand heavy snowfall because the long skies simply slide over the problems.
There’s no need to ditch laptops altogether, as you can use the hardhouse as a base camp and venture out with the flip-overs, making you a lot more versatile.
Funny, now my buddies all want to use the new skid house after moving it to the lake and setting it up … where were they when I needed help setting it up on Lake ? Funny how it works.
I look forward to this transition from laptops to a more secure and comfortable permanent one. We will see how the season unfolds … in comfort!
