Running and Keto Fueled This Man’s 210 Pound Weight Loss Transformation
Johnny Zolton has always struggled with his weight, but things took a dramatic turn when he lost his mother at the age of 15. “I stopped doing all of my sports at school and resorted to video games and junk food,” he says. His inactive lifestyle and unhealthy diet led to continued weight gain, and by the time Johnny was 25, he weighed 445 pounds.
“I felt useless as a person,” he says. “Before the birth of my youngest son, I used to play outside with my two other children. I climbed the two steps of my porch breathlessly. I thought at that moment: ‘I have to do something or I won’t be there to be there for my kids. I won’t be there to walk my daughter down the aisle. I won’t be there to coach my boys in sports. ‘”
This day ended up being a real turning point. From then on, he started exercising daily, focusing on cardio first. He also completely changed his nutrition, eating mostly eggs, chicken, rice, and broccoli, before finally switching to the keto diet.
“At first it was hard to figure out how many carbs there were in everything and how everything felt like there were carbs in it,” he says. “Once I got down to the nitty-gritty it was a lot easier and I really like it… I love eggs. I eat so much and I don’t feel bad at all. J also love steak and all red meats. ”
Everything Johnny has done, from his workouts to his keto, has been self-taught from YouTube and Reddit, with no trainers or dieticians. He currently lifts weights seven days a week and runs a few miles each day. Overall, it was a six-year process; Starting at 445 pounds, Johnny eventually lost a total of 210 pounds, and now, at 31, currently weighs 235 pounds. And he hasn’t finished yet.
“My end goal is simply to continue to be healthier and eventually reduce myself to 10% body fat or less,” he says.
