SUNY Poly’s Golembiowski, Gregory named to USA D-3 men’s basketball team for Brazil tour
MARCY, NY – Two members of the SUNY Poly men’s basketball program are in Brazil to represent the United States after being selected for the USA D-3 men’s basketball team’s Brazil Tour this summer.
Wildcats assistant coach David Golembiowski, a former SUNY Poly and Holland Patent High School, has been named the head coach of the U.S. D-3 team. Forward Josh Gregory, a Whitesboro High School alumnus, has been selected to play for his coach on the All-Star and Stripes list.
The US D-3 team is made up of some of the best NCAA Division III level players from across the country. They will play four games across the South American nation.
“This is an exceptional group of basketball players who come from 8 different states and 13 different colleges and universities in the United States,” said Ron Smith, athletic director of the United States. “We think we have some of the best of the best representing several regions of the country.
“These players have been performing very well both on the field and in the classroom. They represent all that the NCAA Division III institutions have to offer.”
While the roster was announced publicly on Thursday, the team began their ten-day tour of Brazil on Tuesday, training at Clube Jundiaense in Sao Paolo before playing a doubles program in Soracaba on Wednesday.
Next, the team will travel to Rio de Janeiro where they will play two matches against Flamengo Clube and Gluminese Clube, on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
The US men’s and women’s teams will then host a youth basketball camp at Basquete Cruzada before returning to the United States on July 21.
