Top trainer shared his tips for getting in shape in 2022

Magnus Lygdback has helped movie stars like Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot and Alexander Skarsgard get in top shape and regularly shares exercise and nutrition tips on his YouTube channel. In a new video, he answers a few questions from subscribers and offers some suggestions for people who want to start their own fitness journey in the New Year.

One of the questions he asks is from someone who is looking to lose fat but hates running, and he has some good news. “You don’t need to do cardio to burn fat,” he says. “You can run a marathon and be overweight, and you can also have a six pack and be in bad shape. When it comes to having less body fat, it’s all about nutrition.” He adds that cardio, however, is still important for keeping your heart healthy.

Elsewhere, he is asked if strength training exercises are better or worse than weight training at building strength and muscle. “Bodyweight training can be very helpful for someone who is not used to training because the risk of injury is lower,” he says. “Weights, however, are the best long-term option… You can build muscle mass with your body weight, you’ll hit a plateau pretty quickly. In the long run, lifting long weights will be better for you if you want to gain maximum muscle mass or target all the muscles in your body. “

Lygdback is also asked about bulking and cutting, and his advice here is not to push either one to the extreme, not to overeat when you increase your calorie intake, and when it does. involves eating with a calorie deficit, avoid starving yourself. “I think a healthy bulking and cutting cycle can last anywhere from 8 to 12 weeks,” he says.

More than anything, he wants people to remember that progress is different for everyone, depending on your own goals. If your goal is to start training so you have a toned beach body in time for summer, for example, Lygdback recommends starting right away. “It really depends on where you start and how consistent you are,” he says. “It’s not just what you look like in July, it’s also how you feel and longevity and all that.”
